ABOUT US
Jan van de Kamp established de Havikerwaard in 1995, in the former brickworks Steenfabriek Bingerden. The complex is situated on the river de IJssel, in the countryside between Arnhem and Zutphen. The business has developed as a result of his passion for breeding and top-level sport. Van de Kamp: “Applying your own insight and then seeing that it works, that is what we do it for!”
Our vision
We have around 10 broodmares who regularly produce beautiful foals. But we don’t only bring up our own foals, we regularly purchase promising foals. We are proud that a number of horses bred or brought on by de Havikerwaard attract international attention. Babylotte, Wolisco DDH, Lord Sandro, El Divo and Waylotte DDH, for example. In our opinion good breeding starts with a sport horse producing dam-line, in combination with the ability of the Holsteiners, the hardiness of the Selle Français and the speed of the KWPN horses.

Breeding
We mainly use a mix of Holstein, KWPN and Selle Français.
In addition to proven stallions, young stallions are also given a chance. Van de Kamp: “We want to try to be at the forefront in breeding. We were one of the first to breed a foal by Totilas, even before he was approved.”
We also invest in a good dam-line, with mares with the right mind-set. The mare determines for 70% whether a horse is good or not.
Bringing on
We have around ten mares of our own who produce between five and ten foals each year. We bring on and train our homebred and purchased foals ourselves. In this way we can supervise the horses ourselves, as quality is a top priority for us. The horses start their training for the jumping sport at the age of three.
We only bring on our own purchased and homebred foals.
Training yard
The breeding and training of promising jumping horses is our main goal. With us, the horses receive a thorough training during which we give them time to grow in the jumping sport.
Perfect care, whereby daily turnout and good feed play an important role. We always feed our own hay which is grown and harvested with care. In addition, we make use of the aqua-trainer. Under the expert supervision of our equestrian exercise therapist Jeanine, the horses are trained with this as optimally as possible.
